Pocket puzzles: simple puzzles, tough play

This is a collection of puzzles created as a low-effort way to keep logic, memory, and reaction in shape. They are designed to be easily playable and can be played with one hand, on almost any device, and even offline.

There are three puzzles

In Slide, you slide the shuffled tiles into proper positions to restore the original image.

1. Inspect the board and identify which tiles seem to be out of place.

2. Get the pieces in the correct order by sliding one tile at a time.

3. Slide the tiles around until all are placed correctly.

4. There are no limits. Press stop to see solution.

In Pairs, you find matching tiles in the grid.

1. Try to find matching pairs by flipping tiles.

2. If the tiles do not match, they are flipped back after one second.

3. Use your memory to try and match all pairs.

4. Flip all tiles or press stop to see the solution.

In That, you tap the tile that stands out from the rest before a second ends.

1. Quickly scan the grid of tiles that appears on the screen.

2. Tap the tile that looks different from the rest.

3. You only have one second before a new grid appears.

4. Play as long as you like or stop the game.

One board

Puzzles share the main element of the game - a common board with dynamic grid, where the number of rows and columns increases proportionally to difficulty:

Three sounds

Sound effects provide feedback during the game. They were created by manipulating heavy-weight paper and bubble wrap ASMR-close to the microphone. Then they were chopped, filtered, and sped up; their volume and sound duration was normalised.

Many tiles

At most, 32 distinct tiles are displayed at a given time. These patterns are picked from a pool of various designs.

Designs are inspired by Barcelona's panots and traditional decorative ceramic tiles. Some tiles are based on vintage pattern designs.

Each tile pattern has to fit all puzzles: players should be able to restore it if cut into 64 pieces & shuffled, and scaled down or up. To fit the overall style, each pattern uses a limited pallete, shapes, and strokes.

And some details

This is a work in progress with some experimentation happening once in a while with tile patterns and game functionality.

The game is built with JavaScript without external dependecies. Game state is managed through local storage, sound effects are implemented with the Web Audio API to reduce latency, offline functionality is managed by a service worker.
